The RS OAP team performed “Tumbleweed” last Sunday.
The inspiration for this year's show came from the students, as they wanted to tell the story of Doc Holliday from an angle not yet seen. Here are some notes from the script that might help with this explanation....
This story came to fruition after some serious convincing by several of my actors that were struggling to connect with any other scripts and messages to share. The love of Tombstone runs deep in our hometown because the idea of coming together in order to stand for what you believe in is a value that has never been taken for granted in our no-red light, rural community. Doc’s story was very foreign to me, and my students were quick to rectify that situation with countless hours of research into character and timeline development. We wanted this show to unmask the man behind the legend of Doc Holliday, and it is my sincere hope that we have accomplished just that. Doc had his demons, but he stayed true to his own moral code despite all of the turmoil that surrounded him in his lifetime.
A reminder, this Thursday, the play is advancing to bi-district in Abbott.
