A field day for landowners, land managers and anyone with an interest in wildlife and habitat management will be held at the Mason Mountain Wildlife Management Area on Friday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mason Mountain WMA is located, approximately four miles north of Mason, TX. From Mason take RR 386 north two miles and turn left onto Old Mason Road and continue for another two miles to the entrance to the WMA (4086 Wildlife Road, Mason, TX 76856).
The six-hour workshop will cover everything from horned lizards to prescribed burning. Topics will include history of Mason Mountain WMA, Texas horned lizards, prairie dog and javelina restoration projects on the WMA, wildlife and land management tools on your phone, herbicides to control invasive species, prescribed burning, brush management, native grass restoration, quail and more.
Mason Mountain WMA has used multiple tools to create excellent habitat for a diversity of wildlife species. The day’s programming begins with registration on Friday, April 25, at 9:30 a.m. with donuts and coffee. Lunch will be catered at noon and the field tour will start at 1:00 p.m. The program concludes at 4:00 p.m.
Participants are asked to preregister for the event. Cost is $30 if you pre-register by April 15; $40 thereafter and at the door.
