The San Saba 7th grade Middle School Band traveled to Lago Vista on Tuesday, March 4th, to compete in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest.
Their concert program included Spitfire by Story, Vulcan's Forge by Roszell, and Great Beginnings by Kamuf.
The concert band judging panel had the following comments about the bands concert performance: "Many good things today band. You have some really strong moments together are that are very musical! Keep working for consistency! Music is worth the effort!" "Lots of mature sounds in this group! Articulations were handled well. Good march style!" "This was an excellent performance!"
After the conclusion of the concert, the band transitioned to the sightreading room where they had 8 minutes to rehearse a brand new piece of music that was written for the contest. After the 8 minutes of rehearsal, the band was required to perform the piece for a new panel of judges. Some of their comments were: "Well done. You read the marked dynamics well. Nice job today! Keep working hard." "Overall good sounds coming from this band. Balance was good. Nice job of dynamics. This is a strong reading band. Some of the minor slips really stand out when it is so good! Stay with band, you have a great start!" "I enjoyed your performance. You did a good job."
The band received a second division excellent rating with their concert performance and a first division rating with their sightreading performance.
