The Cottonwood Creek Fire hit the news this week. Some of you probably heard the calls out to the VFD’s. Many of you know some of those local heroes who have been out fighting the fire, doing traffic/road control, or were in the line of danger of the fire.
Jerry and Dixie Turner shared some fire damage photos of their place on CR 236.
Dixie said no one was hurt at their place, but she was not sure about others. The Turners had no animals missing, but they lost three-fourths of their 20 acres from the fire that hit their place Wednesday, March 12th. The firefighters were able to save their structures (2 barns). Unfortunately, a lot of fence posts were burnt into, and lost hay was still burning the following day. Air patrol was still circling the area as of midafternoon on Thursday.
Our prayers go out to those affected by the fire in so many ways.
Please do not burn. There is a count-wide burn ban in effect.

If you see this red flag flying at the San Saba County Courthouse, the Burn Ban is in effect. This photo was taken Friday 10:55 a.m. The wind is so strong, the flags look like someone is holding them straight out!
San Saba County has been issued a Fire Weather Warning (Red Flag Warning) and a High Wind Warning.
The National Weather Service in San Angelo defines a Red Flag Warning as: critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will occur shortly. A combination of strong winds, low humidity and dry fuels will contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Please heed those warnings and stay safe.
The San Saba News & Star will keep you updated on this and other news events around the county.
