Jefferson Stencil will speak at A Night at the Museum on March 1st.

    On March 1st, Jefferson Stencil will commemorate Heywood Lane Edwards with two presentations at “A Night at the Museum.”

    For his Eagle Scout project, Jefferson partnered with the San Saba County Historical Museum to create an exhibit on the career and legacy of Lt. Commander (LCDR) Heywood Lane Edwards, USN.

    LCDR Edwards was a native son of San Saba, who attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and is regarded as one of the first casualties of WWII. He commanded the USS Reuben James, which was sunk off the coast of Iceland on October 31, 1941. Jefferson will discuss the LCDR’s education, success in wrestling, naval career and his legacy. He will also discuss the research process and what he learned along the way.

    Jefferson Stencil is a Junior at San Saba High School and participates in multiple activities, including football, band, powerlifting, golf, NHS, among other things. He is also a Life Scout working on his Eagle rank. In his spare time, Jefferson enjoys outdoors, scuba, marksmanship, and travel. Following high school, Jefferson hopes to attend a service academy.
