Miss Ruby Long left for Tyler where she went to enter the Commercial College at that place to take a course in typewriting and shorthand.
Del Reagor has sold his tailoring business to Lawrence Gregg who will shortly move into the Iker house just north of Dr. Williamson’s drug store.
A. R. Mosley has returned from the New York markets where he bought a complete stock of new and up-to-date dry goods for his store. Mr. Mosley is one of our wide awake merchants who always buys heavily and he is already receiving some of the new goods purchased.
O. E. Rice, the gentleman who presides at the Cashier’s window of the Rochelle State Bank graced our office with his charming personality for awhile. Mr. Rice will move in a few days to his farm about one mile north of Rochelle and will mix the business of raising good hogs and chickens with his banking.
Bobbie Noble, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Noble, was awarded the prize in the pretty baby contest at the Majestic Theatre. There were so many pictures of pretty babies on the canvas it was hard for the crowd to decide but in the end Bob received the greatest applause.
The Basket Ball Team of San Saba High School met the Cherokee Juniors on their home ground and came away with the victory again. The score standing at 13 to 19 in favor of San Saba. The team was composed of Misses Mina and Hautense Taylor, Grace, Lucy and Mable Clair Urquhart, Vera Harber, Jimalou Carr, Miss Arline Odiorne, Prof. Pritchett and Garland Hill, Uluth Sanderson, Douglas Smith, Herbert Clark, David Smalensky, Ab Walters accompanied the team.
70 Years Ago February 3, 1955
Mrs. Bernice Murray, county home demonstration agent, will be among nine agents from District 7 and two agents from District 3 attending a special training course on advanced dress making held in San Angelo at the San Angelo College.
The frame church building on the 600 block on Dry Street was built in the 80’s––the lot was given by the Episcopalian Bishop Elliot, the house built by donations from people of the town. The original church had 35 members, according to Mrs. Russell.
This is new age, Mrs. Edith Atchison of Richland Springs and Mrs. Marie Clark, San Saba, to be the first women to serve on the jury commission. They will help select the jury for next term of district court––nice compliment ladies.
Mrs. J. T. Whitt entertained her daughter, Miss Jackie Whitt, with a theatre party in honor of her 10th birthday. Those attending were Misses Mary Bearden, Jamie and Judy Whitt and the honoree.
The combined offices of the San Saba County Chamber of Commerce and San Saba Retail Merchants Association were moving to upstairs quarters in the City National Bank building, in the space formerly occupied by the resident state highway engineer. The move was from the office in Hotel San Saba, which they had occupied for the past 13 months.
