Understanding your winter gas bill
Colder temperatures can impact your natural gas bill by using more energy to operate your furnace, water heater, and other gas appliances. After the recent winter storm from 01/09/2025 to 01/11/2025, your natural gas bill for January may have increased.*
How extreme temperatures impact your energy use:

When the average low winter temperature is 38 degrees, your furnace typically warms the air in your home by about 30 degrees. However, if the average low during an extreme winter storm is 13 degrees, then there is a 55 degree difference. Extreme temperatures outside require your furnace to use more energy to reach your desired indoor temperature setting.
