I was talking with Johnny Reeves on Sunday. He shared that the hardest decision he had to make, when he was Superintendent, was over snow days and closing school. He said no matter what he did there was someone to chew him out over his decision. Like other schools in the area, Richland Springs closed two days out of an abundance of caution. My radar had ice and sleet for the major portion of the day on Thursday, possibly extending into Friday. We had a cold miserable rain, but no ice on the roads. We will make up the time somewhere down the road. It’s always a tough decision to close school.
The quilting ladies had a sew day on Monday. Every month or two, the ladies drag their sewing gear to the church and spend the entire day sharing and sewing. This is always a special time because the ladies can share ideas, help with sewing issues, and sometimes lend a shoulder to someone who needs a hug. If you need a group to hang with, these ladies are special. You can come and sit, even if you don’t sew. The ladies will be going on another retreat in Fredericksburg in a few weeks.
Speaking of special people, I want to extend a thank you to the kids at Richland Springs for their fantastic food donations. Miss Kuder has organized this event for the last few years, and the outpouring of goods for the food pantry are wonderful. Thank you to all the super Coyote students and teachers for spreading kindness.
If you have not checked the photos of our basketball teams at work posted by Mrs. Kubin, you have missed some great shots.
Congratulations to all teams for their hard work and successful seasons. Please check the school reminder for this week’s schedule.
Senior countdown has begun. Last week, the seniors went to the photographers to take their senior photos. I could tell them that the next few months will keep them busy. I hope they make many happy memories. They will need them once they get out and need to make their own way in the world. We love our seniors.
I didn’t disconnect the water timers in my garden. I guess I will be buying new timers since these froze. I guess I will be better prepared for the freeze that is coming next Sunday. Russ is done with winter and wants summer to return. I agree with him. I left the cold country of Canada over 50 years ago and have no desire to experience freezing weather. I’m looking forward to spring.
I can assure you that all churches in San Saba County are praying for the California fires. The devastation caused looks like a giant bomb has exploded and wiped-out hundreds of homes.
Don’t forget the hurricane states that are without homes and assistance. Most of the help they have received has come from private sources. Americans are giving people.
Please pray for our country, the wars in Europe and the Middle East and all the people who have been displaced by those wars. Please pray for our incoming government, our new members of Congress and a spirit of cooperation within our government. Don’t forget to prepare for the next cold front. Please check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are prepared. Thank you, Lord, for the rain. Have a wonderful week everyone.
