50 Years Ago January 9, 1975
Roman Maddox of Cherokee celebrated his birthday with a party at his home. Decorations were in the “Snoopy” motif. There were 16 youngsters and several mothers and grandmothers helping him celebrate.
Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Walker, Stanley, Roger, Melinda and Billy Ray, have returned from a holiday visit in Las Vegas, Nev. with his sister and family, Mrs. Lorraine Biddle, Mike, Jay, Nancy and Karen. They were met there by Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gonzales, Kimberly and Rickey, all of Brentwood, Calif.
Number one not only for the year 1975 but also number one for Mr. and Mrs. Steve Spinks of San Saba. The first baby of the year is named Billy Darold Spinks and arrived at San Saba Memorial Hospital, Jan. 2, about 8 a.m. and weighed 6 lbs., 4 oz. Mrs. Spinks is the former Raelene Burnham.
After Gerald Cummings found a rattlesnake den in Elm Grove, we all went along to watch them raid the den. They got 21 snakes, with most of them being large ones. The pulled out 15 before they gassed the den.

Eight-year-old Talli Morrison had been waiting patiently for a long time to donate her hair to Locks of Love. Why did she do it? “I wanted to help kids with cancer,” she said. Talli is the daughter of Tommy and Kaci Morrison.
In Bend, we started out the New Year with the New Year’s Eve supper and party at the community center where there were 35 present. We had a lot of good food, good fellowship and about a dozen people stayed to see the old year out and the new year in. We are looking forward to new year.
Garrett Martin would like to announce the arrival of his baby sister, Maci Danielle, born December 21, 2004 at Plano Presbyterian Hospital. Maci weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz and was 18 1/2 inches long. Parents are Mark and Julie Martin of Frisco, Texas. Maternal grandparents are Maria S. Ramirez and the late J. C. Ramirez of San Saba.
One of the historical events occurring at the swearing in ceremony was the congratulation of the duly elected Constable, C.K. Stevenson not to be “sworn in.” C.K. ran on the platform that, if elected, he would not be sworn in and that office, for all intents and purposes, would be vacant. It was felt that this would be an unnecessary expense to the county. C.K. was congratulated for taking on this challenge voluntarily and winning. At the next State election, there will be an opportunity for every voter in Texas, to vote for the dissolution of the office of Constable in San Saba County.
