The Richland Springs Report

I’m on a mission. I forgot the column had to be in by five on Sunday. I was busy finishing a quilt for my third great grandson, who will arrive shortly. It’s a busy little quilt, but most definitely boyish. My concern with it is the background print is a dull beige. I think it will be fine once Kathy Davie quilts it. The other side is bright orange, so if they don’t like the front, they can flip it.

It was cold and windy yesterday, and that makes it hard to go out to my old house and sew. There is no heater and no air other than the chilly breeze. Still, I love the old house. I just realized it is about the same age as the bank building downtown. I don’t see any signs of critters in it right now. Last year, I had a giant rat living in the house. It took a while, but I finally rid the house of the messy home invader.

Christmas Eve there will be a candlelight service at the First Baptist Church. Service will begin at 5:00 p.m. There is no Kid’s Church until mid-January. The Sewing Ladies will also resume the second week in January. Those resolute ladies are heading to another sewing retreat the second to last week in January. I will do my best to be there.

Students will return to school January 7th, 2025.

I’m told there will be some fundamental changes in the new school year. I shall look forward to whatever the principal brings to better our school.

Before you know it, the tax man will be knocking on the door. I don’t know if the pay raise for Congress went through, but it seems unreasonable to vote for a raise for yourself when citizens are having a difficult time buying groceries. At least the spending went from over 15 hundred pages to slightly over 100. Thank you, ladies, and gentlemen. Let’s get busy voting for fiscal responsibility. I hope some of you will attend a Rennie Mann's next event and give him your support. He will be an excellent candidate to hold the line on spending. If we don’t get out and vote in 2026, Trump may lose his house majority.

I pray everyone will have a loving Christmas. This season is not just about hustle, bustle, and gifts. It’s about the most wonderful gift given to mankind: the chance for forgiveness and a place to spend eternity. I wish all of you the best.

Please pray for our country, our incoming Congress, and President, and peace on Earth. We have soldiers around the world far from their families and in danger; please pray for them. We also have first responders who put their lives on the line for us that need our prayers. God bless you all and have a Merry Christmas.
