The Bend Sunday School sent a nice check to the orphans home at Waco and gave apples and oranges to the Sunday School. A scene long to be remembered was the son of Cecil McCoury, now overseas, walked to the rostrum with a smiling face, tried his best to deliver an address that we could all remember that Christ was born thousands of years ago. Little Miss Rhuvon Underwood, who is seven years old, also delivered an address.

A deer with 25 points was killed south of town by Allen Crain and is believed to have had the largest set of horns of any killed in this section, thinks Mr. Crain. He was accompanied by J. W. McDoniel, another successful hunter from San Saba.

Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Sterner have had as their guests during the holidays their son, Lt. Kenneth Sterner, who is here from the Panama Canal Zone, with his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Townsend Jr., who are here from Orange, and who visited with Mr. Townsend’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Townsend.

A nice Christmas program was presented by teachers Mrs. Irene Nettleship, Mrs. Georgia Parks, and students. Santa Claus was present to present gifts from a nice tree.

Well Mr. Editor here’s to wishing you and all your advertisers a happy and prosperous New Year and the prayers of the praying world will be answered that all our boys will soon return home and peace on earth may prevail. So farewell 1944 and good morning 1945. Yours truly.––Gimlet.
