Lenny's Life Lessons

Hey there, my San Saba souls of love. Speaking of souls, why oh why do humans make language difficult? There are human souls, shoe soles and a fish named sole! The obvious question is… “does a sole fish taste like leather, rubber or what?” Sorry, I cannot ask mom because to her fish is something only cats should eat. “What, mom? You once had a friend called tuna? Did he smell bad, or did he live in a can?”

We put up a tiny Christmas tree, and of course it's just another thing I am not allowed to do anything but look at! Okay, there is no denying truth so I suppose I should be honest… I have been known to chew things to bits. Strangely enough, the objects I have ruined have never been the cause of mom’s concern but the possible, and probable, effect on my dachshund insides. Yep, you guessed it…mom tells me ‘it is for my own good.’ Please understand, I don’t have a wish to eat the Christmas tree…I just have an overwhelming desire to lift my leg so it is truly mine. Yeah, mom may have a point.

It is no secret we dogs live in a human world, but we still maintain roots of our wolf background. I am a hunter, and mom thinks when I have my nose to the ground I am hunting pecans. Okay, so she has seen me chewing some, trying to dig some out covered by leaves, it is not the only reason I keep my nose to the ground! My dachshund nose is my life radar, navigation system - it directs my body where and how to be a dachshund. By the way, aren’t nuts the healthy choice for snacks? So what if science says pecans are bad for dogs; hmm, I wonder if scientists ankles taste good?

I asked mom what she planned to get me for Christmas? How do I describe her evil smile when she answered… “respect, obedience, and oh yeah, a sense for boundaries.” Boy oh boy, I think she got mixed up and told me about her wishlist! Mom and I have a wishlist for each of you…great joy, peaceful and happy memories, and mostly all the love and kindness your heart can hold!

Love, Lenny
