The Richland Springs Coyotes claimed the District 15-A Championship with a 64-0 victory over the Lohn Eagles Friday night, making their record 10-0 for the season and 4-0 in district play. The Coyotes generated 124 total yards, 29 passing and 95 rushing, to score eight touchdowns in the shutout.
The Coyotes scored offensively on a 29-yard pass from Cohen Ethridge (#13) to EJ Aviles (#5). Three additional scores included a 32-yard carry by Gage Behrens (#20), a 24-yard sprint by Jim Eckermann (#1), and an eightyard run by Hudson Tharp (#12).
Billy Perry (# 17) added touchdowns on a blocked punt return and a fumble return, rushed for an added 31 yards, and added nine tackles and five sacks defensively. Hutton Rogers (#9) and Behrens both returned interceptions for touchdowns and had seven tackles apiece. Aviles added 11 tackles and a sack, Eckermann tacked on another sack with eight tackles, while Tharp and Norris each had seven tackles and a sack. Ethan Deeds (#8) successfully converted all PATs, bringing the score to the final 64-0.
At this time, Richland Springs will have a bye in the opening round of the playoffs as District 16 second-place Calvert (3-5) and third-place Buckholts (3-7) have forfeited due to a lack of players. The Lady Coyote Volleyball Team advanced after their Area Championship win against the Rising Star Wildcats and will take on the Bluff Dale Bobcats for the Regional Quarterfinal Title on Tuesday, November 12th, at Brownwood High School.
