The Richland Springs Report

Fall cleaning has its downside. Donna Hill and I swept and dusted the old bank building. The back closet had 50 years of dust and silt. I looked up at one point and realized I was in a cloud of dust. Since I didn’t wear a mask, I new that I might pay for my carelessness. Sure enough, I’m down for the count today.

I led morning song service hacking and coughing my way between lines. This morning, I had a thought about cleaning.

Yesterday, I washed the front windows. Window washing is not an everyday job for me. After a good scrubbing, I looked out the windows and thought what a beautiful job I had done. This morning, with the east sun on the windows, all I saw was smudges and streaks. I was a little upset. I told the church congregation life is like that. We try to clean ourselves up and appear clean and sparkly to the world. The truth is that until the SON comes in and shines on our lives, we are really a smudgy mess of sin.

It’s playoff season for volleyball and football. Congratulations to the Lady Coyotes, the 2024 Area Champions. The next game will be Regional Quarterfinals in Brownwood on Tuesday against Bluff Dale at 6 p.m. Varsity boys football defeated Lohn on homecoming to become District Champions. Check the school page for the first playoff game.

Our flag football team are champions and headed to the Superbowl. Good luck to all teams.

The men’s prayer breakfast was last Saturday. If you missed it, please check out the community page. Thirty-three men attended this breakfast on Saturday. Thank you to Chris Perry and Johnny Reeves for a delicious meal. The breakfast is the second Saturday of the month. All men and their sons are welcome to attend.

I wish people would realize that elections are short-term issues. Trump and the Republicans won this year, but there is another election in two years and the house and senate may change hands. Four years from now, a new presidential election will occur.

Just as Biden assured the voters that there would be a smooth transition of power, Trump will hand over the reins four years from now. There is no need to panic, no need for harsh words, no need for angry rhetoric. This too shall pass. Over half the U.S. citizens have chosen a change in policy this year. Both parties will study polls ad nauseam until they figure out what the American public wants. That’s the beauty of this strange experiment that started in 1776. Let there be peace in our country.

About 10 ladies gathered in the Community Center for a wreath and bow making class. Dee Crump, from Adorabella Designs, was our teacher. These events are great community building times, but they are also relaxing. The creative juices released were amazing to watch, and the results seemed to please all the participants.

I hope many people found the time to stop for breakfast outside the Community Center Sunday morning. The Pearce family held a fundraiser for the Beautification Committee. Our little community is blessed to have Paige Moats and her committee. Tami Lusty contributed her talents to keep our city plant baskets healthy. I can’t wait for the Christmas decorations to go up.

We have many prayer requests this week. I won’t list everyone, but we have several fighting incurable cancer, many suffering with seasonal ailments, and financial issues facing many families. Please remember the Food Bank at the First Baptist Church if you need food. We have wars facing us in several countries. We need God to step in and save the day. Please keep your heart thankful as we approach Thanksgiving Day. We are a blessed nation. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
