November 2, 1944
J. E. Epperson of Cherokee gave Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Ruckman a sweet potato two feet long from his victory garden. The Epperson garden is subirrigated and has grown a number of vegetables but the record size potato was a surprise to Mr. Epperson when he dug it out along with a number of other sweet potatoes of the usual size.
Pfc. Bennie L. Lively of San Saba, who has been in Italy for the past eight months, is now entitled to wear the gold Overseas Service bar under recent War Department orders.
Miss Clovis White of Georgetown, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn White, is helping her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Millican of River Bend Farm, harvest their crops this fall.
Five hundred, seventy-one pounds of clothing has shipped from San Saba on its way to Europe to relieve suffering there because of the lack of clothing for the winter. This is to express appreciation to all who cooperated in this movement and may you receive there from a special blessing to know that you have helped someone in need.
Mrs. Sam Laird honored her son, Roscoe, on his 7th birthday with a party at her home when she entertained 35 little guests, including the pupils of the first grade.

The San Saba High School Band, under the direction of Ken Ripley, participated in District VII UIL Marching Contest held in Brady and came home with a Superior rating, a District Title, and certification to compete at Regional Marching Contest.
Garlon A. Preece, son of Phennie Judkins of San Saba and a 1979 graduate of San Saba High School has recently completed a 47 week course of instruction in the Russian Language at the Defense Foreign Language Center in Monterrey, California.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Rutherford of Bend celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to San Antonio, given to them by their children, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rutherford and Blake of Fort Worth.
Bandsmen of the Week for the week of October 26 were recognized during half time activities of the Mason, San Saba football game at Rogan Field. Sophomore Alicia Lackey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Lackey, plays Bells, and Tina Reyes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Reyes, Jr., is a senior and plays clarinet in the band.
Children and grandchildren of Layton and Rosetta Garrett, honored their parents and grandparents on the Garretts’45th wedding anniversary. The Garretts have two daughters, Ann Watson of Round Rock and Donna Garrett of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Greg, Kirk and Tracy Watson of Round Rock.
