The Richland Springs Report

Between celestial events such as the Northern Lights, the comet, the big Hunter’s Moon and the lovely cool weather, it has been a wonderful week. I’ve been sleeping with my windows open and enjoying the fresh breeze in the room. We do need some rain in the area, but perhaps not another spell of hot weather.

I attended the Howler’s Ball on Saturday. This year it was held in the new, The Springs at Mann Ranch event center. This newly built event center will hopefully bring more business to our area. The building itself is beautiful, roomy, and suitable for a wide variety of events. The Howler’s Ball is a fundraiser for local student scholarships. The event was catered by the Coyote Store. Needless to say, the food was delicious.

Our little community has been busy with fundraising events this month. Our VFD had their fish fry, which was followed by the JLT fundraiser, and now the Howler’s Ball. Despite the economy, our community members gave generously. Our students are truly fortunate to be living here.

The varsity football boys triumphed over Brookesmith, 59-12. Lubbock West Texas fell in defeat to our varsity 46-0. Junior varsity boys won their game against Baird. The flag football team ended their season 7-0, Their final game was against Jonesboro 34-6. Congratulations, little ones.

Varsity volleyball defeated Zephyr in three games. They will play Zephyr again on the 26th. Cross country girls placed second in the district meet and will run in the Regional Meet Tuesday, in Corpus Christi. The next game will be in Rochelle this Wednesday, the 23rd, starting at 5:00 p.m. Bring out the fans for this particularly important district game.

The Homecoming dance is on October 26th in the Cafetorium. Grades 9-12 are welcome to attend. Homecoming has been moved to November 8th against Lohn. The Fall Festival is on the 28th from 5-6:30 p.m.

This Monday is the food bank at First Baptist Church 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday is the ladies quilting and Bible study at First Baptist. Wednesday, Shiloh will suspend their youth services because most of our youth will be in Rochelle attending the volleyball game. The team is asking for as many fans as possible to attend.

Wednesday is also the monthly food bank in San Saba. First Baptist in Richland Springs has started their Samaritan's Purse Christmas Shoe Box Drive. If you would like to contribute or participate, please contact Kristie Perry.

Our church prayer list was quite lengthy. As winter approaches, many older folks have health issues. Please pray for several local families who have recently lost loved ones. Also, pray for the firefighters as they bring the Perry fire south of San Saba under control. Please pray for our community, our elections, our country, the wars around us, and our open border.

Please don’t forget to vote; vote early if possible. Our elections are important.

If you’re confused, look up party platforms and vote for the platform that suits your beliefs. God, bless this country and most of all, bless our precious troops and their families. Have a great week.
