As you drove down Wallace Street in San Saba this week, you probably saw the HUGE crane sticking up in the air on North 1st Street between San Saba’s First Baptist Church and the CTTC tower station. I could even see it from the street by the Courthouse. It was a TALL CRANE!
As I got closer, I could see there were two guys AT THE TOP of the tower! I had guessed they rode in a big bucket on the crane to get up there. Then, I found out they climbed up the stairs on the side of the tower to get up there. That’s a lot of stairs!
There was an onlooker sitting in his vehicle in the church parking lot enjoying the show. He was having fun trying to make guesses at what they were doing.
If you look at the bottom of the crane, you can see the wide span of the outriggers. They went from the east side of North 1st Street all the way across the street and into the church parking lot.
Version Enertech Resources needed to replace some of the equipment on the tower. They hired Alamo Crane Service, out of Selma, Texas, to help them with the project. Richard M. from Alamo Crane Service was the crane operator.
One of the workers from Verizon Enertech said they were removing the old equipment and putting up brand new Verizon high-tech equipment. He also said they hope to be finished by Friday of this week, Saturday at the latest.
