I think many of us are in survival mode. Bodies are worn our from the heat, and our land is parched from lack of rain. I thought for sure we were going to get rain the other night, but instead I received a light show with drum rolls, and no hint of rain.
Area fire fighters need rain to help with several fires in the area.
Donna Taylor was looking out her window when the Locker fire started. She said a big bolt of lightning struck the ground, and almost immediately smoke rose. It’s important that we monitor all outdoor activities that might start another fire.
I’d like to blame my typing skills, or lack of them, on my machine, but my sticky little finger is struggling with arthritis.
The church was in prayer for several reasons this morning.
The Kid’s Church starts the Wednesday after Labor Day, and Ladies Bible Study and quilting starts the Tuesday after Labor Day. Our first Fifth Quarter will be Friday the 30th in the Fellowship Hall. Pork sliders and baked beans (Bush’s) are on the menu with delicious desserts provided by the Shiloh folks. Our local churches support our youth.
The Lady Coyotes participated in a three-day tournament last week. I have yet to see the results. The Junior High ladies won two out of three in their match. Here comes Friday. Are you ready for some football?
There will be no games for junior high this week.
Varsity will travel to Hico to play volleyball. Cross country will attend a meet in Brownwood on Wednesday. Mrs. Starr asked me to remind all students that individual pictures will be Thursday as well as all team photos. Teachers will have to take pictures again. If you are interested in the workings of our school board, there is a meeting on Thursday evening.
This week’s column will be short. It seems I have picked up a bug from one of my little munchkins. I have a good immune system, so I should get better quickly.
Please pray for our community, rain, our country, our elections, and the many fires around the country caused by extreme drought and heat. We had a special prayer for Johnny and Lynn this morning during choir practice. Thank you, ladies, for being so flexible. I know that I stress Kristi all the time because I wander off the music. She is always patient. We are all so thankful that our pastor, Brother Mack, is home on Sundays to preach. Johnny, Caden and Dale have done a magnificent job of filling in for him. Welcome home.
Please pray for our firefighters, but most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.
