My morning chores are officially from 8-10 a.m. Anything else after that is miserable. Anything during that time is uncomfortable. We had a wonderfully wet May and June, and my lawn is paying the price. I have three-foot-tall weeds. Russ mows, but the weed eating is my task. Since my outdoor work is limited to that period, it takes multiple days. I won’t let it get away from me again.
I didn’t attend the scrimmage last week, but to all accounts it went well. The Abilene paper says we are ranked number two in our district. That is a little surprising to me, but I’m sure we will fix that. I’m positive this time of the year is the least favorite for all football players. Adding pads and uniforms to elevated temperatures makes for a miserable time. Two a days are designed to toughen up, but I’m pleased to see the coaches are keeping everyone hydrated. The next game is on August 30th, at 7 p.m. against the Leakey Big Springs Hawks. Come out and support our Coyotes.
We had many folks who came out for the Prayer Walk around the school. Brother Bill Slaymaker and Brother Mack Elkin came with members of their church. This walk has people from San Saba and Richland Springs area as well as family members out in the country. It’s a beautiful tradition started by Dee Crump many years ago.
I’m a little tired of all the political ads on my phone, computer, and other forms of media, but no matter your party preference, please get out and vote. If you hate both candidates, check out the party platforms and vote for the party that suits your ideals. Just get out and vote.
The quilting ladies headed back to Mason one last time. I did not go this time because I had business to finish. Regular meetings will start shortly. As usual, anyone in the area interested in quilting and Bible study is welcome to attend. It’s an amazing group of sweet ladies. The Wednesday kids church will start after Labor Day. If you want to help with the kids, please come in on Wednesday around 4:00 p.m. There’s always room for extra hands.
Chrissy’s Plants has started a new endeavor to benefit the community: a low-cost, noon-time meal on Mondays. One satisfied customer is hoping they may add Sundays, too! Please remember to visit our local stores when possible: Coyote Store, The Feedlot, Skelton’s Hardware, Chrissy's Plants, and RS BoHo Unique. Across the street from BoHo is Lord’s Farms which has produce for sale, and McKinnerney Real Estate is selling cantaloupes. McKinnerney Real Estate is also a gathering center for the Friends of Animals in San Saba. Please shop locally.
The Preservation Society is finally able to replace the broken windows upstairs due to the gracious donations from our community. Some of the frames will need repairs. If there is a carpenter out there who would like to donate his services, we will be glad to accept help. The next meeting will be on September 16th.
Mondo and Paula Garcia will be hosting an after-church dinner next Sunday. Donations will be taken to cover the cost of the feast.
HB Adams should be coming home soon after a short stay in the hospital for heat exhaustion. Please be careful when you must be out for extended periods of time. Praise God our Pastor Mack is home from the border. The border continues to be a problem for our country. Please pray for world peace, sanity in our elections, and some much needed rain. Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.
