News from Cherokee ISD
We have completed our first full week of school, and everybody is settling into the new school year. Football and cross country are firing up as well. Last week, the football boys scrimmaged against Rising Star. This week, they will travel to Zephyr for another scrimmage on Friday. They will begin at 6 p.m. The Cherokee Lady Indians cross country team will travel to Belton for their first meet of the season this Friday as well.
This year, our elementary students are learning how to set goals, both inside and outside the classrooms. They have set individual goals that were selfselected. Their deadline is by the end of the six weeks. If you have an elementary student, ask them about their goals. They might even need your help or encouragement to reach them!
Benchmarks are in full swing this week and next week for all students. These tests give us a baseline of where our students are. It also allows us to see how much growth they’ve achieved by the end of the school year.
Our midcycle is coming up on August 29th. Look for progress reports to come out shortly after that. Progress reports are a great way for students, parents, and teachers to gauge the student’s understanding of their classwork. It can be a very useful tool for all that have an educational interest. Parents, if you have questions, concerns, or want strategies for helping your child at home, please contact your student’s teacher. They are more than willing to visit with you!
