Simple Truths

John 5:24 “Verily, verily I say unto you; he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life.”

We find this double word phrase, ' Verily, verily' 24 times in the book of John and nowhere else in the Bible. This particular phrase means “Trustworthy or sure.” What he is about to say here is doubly important, because your salvation and assurance, or the lack of, hangs on the truth about to be presented.

'I say unto you' - The Lord is speaking to you today, whoever you are, no matter what condition you are in. You can know assuredly that Jesus is speaking to you, individually. Everybody who has a burden of any kind is invited to claim this truth for themselves. 'I say unto you.' That means everybody who is listening to or reading these words can respond to this invitation with total assurance. One of the reasons to listen with your whole heart and give it double attention is because it is directed to you personally, just as though he were talking to no one else but you. You can claim this as an invitation to you.

'He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me' - The gospel is in two parts: Hearing the gospel and Believing the gospel. Hearing the word won't do you much good if you won't believe it. The Bible says in Romans 10:17 'So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.' Romans 10:11 says 'For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.' And then in Romans 10:14,15 'How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher.' Hearing the gospel is important, but believing it is imperative.

' Hath everlasting life.' Salvation is immediate. Hath means right here and right now. Everlasting life begins the very moment you believe on the Lord for salvation.

'And shall not come into condemnation' - Romans 8:1 'There is therefore now no condemnation.' John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

'But is passed from death unto life' - John 11:25 'I am the resurrection and the life, He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.'

They may put you in a grave, but you will not be dead. 2 Corinthians 5:1 'For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.'

If you have believed on him for salvation, your sins are gone, forgiven and forgotten. Praise the Lord!!!
