C. S. Bloomer has moved from the Jim Lafferty place to the Garrett garage apartment. The Laffertys are moving from the Gibbons ranch to town since Mr. Lafferty has been elected Constable of Richland Springs.
Goar Motors have moved from the southwest corner of the Plaza to the Vogel Building on the south side of the Plaza.
Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Peisker of Austin spent the weekend here with Mr. and Mrs. Cal Montgomery and Mrs. Mahala Taylor. Peisker also called at this office to renew his subscription to the Star.
Sgt. Jack R. Turner of Austin, is here visiting with his wife and son, Scott, after having received his discharge from service at Camp Chaffee. Turner has been stationed for the past year at Thule Air Force Base in Greenland. His wife, is the former Wanda Jewell Scott.
A Magnolia filling station operated by Bob Hanna, in Cherokee, burned Sunday afternoon and was a complete loss, said Fire Chief Bob Smith of the San Saba Volunteer fire department.
Miss Barbara Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Green of Richland Springs and piano student of Mrs. Margaret D. Miller won a scholarship in piano at Southwest Texas Teachers College at San Marcos. Miss Green played for Dr. R. A. Tampke, head of the music department and two piano instructors, Mr. Anton Bek and Mr. Iro Bowles.
50 Years Ago August 22, 1974
Watkins Pharmacy, on the San Saba Courthouse Square, was burglarized sometime early morning by unknown individuals who took $80.00 in cash and a quantity of second class narcotics.
Guests of Pauline Bernal and Frank Bernal were their friends, Mrs. Pauline Martinez and family and her mother, Mrs. Anita Elizondo, all of Granbury.
A formal dinner party in the Jack Miller home honored M’Lissa Baskin, former San Saba High School student who has moved with her parents to Llano. Hostesses were Martha Miller and Sarah Bynum, assisted by Mrs. Jack Miller and Mrs. Dick Miller.
Mrs. Melba Karnes and daughter, Sorita Dawn, of San Antonio have moved here to be with her mother, Mrs. W. E. Favers. Sorita has enrolled in San Saba elementary school.
With 140 registered at the Old Settlers Reunion, the honor of being the oldest couple present went to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Taff. Larry Sanderson presented a plaque to the couple on behalf of the San Saba American Legion Post 27. George S. Riggs, 97, and Mrs. Minnie Reavis, 96, again took the honors as the oldest man and woman.
