We are supposed to have rain all this week. So far, we’ve had a sprinkle here at the house, but the coolness is refreshing. I am aware, as someone told me, that August is coming, but I’m going to enjoy the cool while I can.
The quilting ladies travelled to Mason last Monday to check out a storehouse of material. Apparently, a lady passed away, and she had a huge amount of material and sewing supplies. I can tell you the seven ladies that went in the van filled up the two back seats with shelving, thread, sewing machines and masses of material. We had so much fun that we’ve decided that we will return this Monday. Church members are assisting this gentleman to clear the rooms filled with thousands of dollars of sewing materials.
Final plans by the administration have prepared the school for the arrival of students in two short weeks. I’m having a challenging time realizing the summer disappeared before I accomplished the tasks I had set for myself. The internet is full of teacher tips for the first week of school, bulletin boards, teaching tips and fun projects. Overall, it’s quite disturbing. How could the summer have disappeared so quickly? Please remember that the school will be supplying all the school supplies for our students.
It was great to be back in church with all my friends.
It’s about time for me to step down as music leader, but my heart doesn’t want to quit, even if my voice does. I wish more people thought church was important. So many churches hold services with diminished congregations. The days of being in church the moment the doors open are long gone. Our lives have become so busy that Sunday has become a 'me' day, instead of a God Day. I was sitting in an adult study Sunday evening thinking how pleasant it was to study with like-minded people, who are not perfect, but so loving.
This Wednesday will be the last food bank in San Saba that our students will be able to attend since they will be back in school. Last month, there were over 100 families who arrived to supplement their pantry. HEB is an impressive company to share all this bounty with local food banks. I want to thank our student helpers, William, Chris, Clara, and Ian for their assistance this summer.
The ribbon cutting ceremony by the Chamber of Commerce and Chrissy’s Plants was an overwhelming success. Over 60 people shared the happy moment with Chrissy and Bobby Baker. Vendors associated with the enterprise were also there: Putt's Posies, Red Hot Mama, Adorabella Designs, Luttie Belle's, O'Black Sheep Home Goods.
Please pray for our new school year. Mr. Jeff Kirby has been working with Mrs. Wyatt and interim Super Mr. Friar to get everything ready for our returning students. I think you will like Mr. Kirby. He is straight forward, honest, and precise. By precise, I mean he likes his ducks in a row, and order in his realm. It should be a good year.
Our country and our elections need much prayer. We came remarkably close to having a national tragedy last week. Plus, a family is left devastated by the death of their dad, Corey Comperatore.
Now we have close to a tragedy in the stepping down of President Biden. Please pray for order and clarity in the upcoming elections.
Please pray for Panzi Fikes; she fell twice last week and hurt herself. Johnny Reeves needs our prayers as well as he is going through another round of tough chemo. Kay McKee is recovering from knee surgery. Pray for rain, for our border and for the many sicknesses in our area. Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a wonderful week.
