The Richland Springs Report

Four ladies, plus yours truly, trekked out to Stonewall to stay at Emily’s Haus with Kay and Carolyn Huffman. This is always a delightful, restful, and productive retreat. We chose to provide our own meals this time, but I like the feeling of being pampered when someone else cooks. Mind you, Kathy Davee, Toni Hill, Kathy Ledbetter, and Debbie Phelan are all great cooks. I can’t say as much for one Sue Ransom. It takes me a few days to recoup after a sewing re treat. I managed to complete three quilts that had been semi-finished and started a fourth one. None of them were as magnificent as those completed by Kathy Ledbetter and Toni Hill, but I was happy to get some of my projects completed.

I came home to a dry garden. That was a surprise to me since I haven’t had to water for weeks. I knew all that lovely rain had to stop sometime soon. After all, this is June in Central Texas.

The weeds are overtaking everything in sight. As usual, here come the grasshoppers and my favorite grass burrs. I take my life in my hands just walking across to the garden. I’ve heard several people talking about scorpions invading the house. Scorpions are incredibly scary and mean looking. I don’t like them at all.

Russ attended the Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Saturday. Please remember the men’s breakfast is held on the second Saturday of the month. Johhny Reeves was the guest speaker this month. There were 27 men who stayed to eat and listen to an encouraging message.

The garden club met this past Sunday. The guest speaker was Mr. Billy Kniffen. He is the absolute go-to man for rainwater harvesting. He runs his entire household on containment water. There’s an art to this, and he is willing to let you visit his home to see his water containment setup. This garden club meeting is open to anyone in the area who would like to learn more about gardening.

VBS at the First Baptist Church in Richland was this week, Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The theme is SHINE, and all young people from age four to sixth grade are welcome to come and join the fun. I heard there are plans in the making for a back-to-school bash later.

I’d like to remind you that the school will be providing supplies for all students this coming school year. This is to ease the financial strain on parents. Please check the school dress code before going clothes shopping. Don't forget the Saturday market under the Tabernacle. Bring your goods to sell or bring yourself to buy.

We have several residents in the hospital, many more needing prayers for summer ailments, and of course the ever-present cancer. Please pray for sickness in our community. Our government needs to learn to cooperate, our President needs prayer, and we need to pray for our open border and the overwhelming amount of undocumented and illegal people crossing into our country. Lord, protect our first responders and police officers, but most of all protect our precious troops and their families. Have a wonderful week everyone.
