San Saba High School proudly welcomed a new cohort of students into the prestigious National Honor Society on May 8, 2024. The event, attended by faculty, families, and fellow students, celebrated academic excellence, leadership, service, and character, the core values upheld by the NHS. The highlight of the morning was the induction of the new members. Each student took the pledge to uphold the values of the society.
During the ceremony, the current NHS President, Natalie Cuevas, shared insights about the importance of the society and what it means to be a member. NHS advisor Shara Wright inspired the inductees with a keynote address highlighting the long-term benefits of the NHS's skills and values, explaining to the audience to find their “why.” The induction also included a candle-lighting ceremony, symbolizing the four pillars of the NHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Each new member lit a candle from the flame of the previous year's inductees, signifying the passing of the torch and the continuation of these ideals.
Parents and teachers in attendance expressed pride and joy at seeing the students recognized for their hard work and dedication. The ceremony concluded with a reception, where the inductees and their families celebrated this significant milestone. The newly inducted NHS members are expected to take on various service projects and leadership roles within the school and the wider community in the coming year.
