We Have Choices

Recently I heard a country music song about choices, and I believe it was by George Jones. The song went on to say we live with those choices. We are faced with choices all of our lives, and they can be enjoyable and wonderful, or they can be painful or heartbreaks.

I remember in school when I did not make good choices and met with the board of education, and I can assure you it was a painful experience. And that led me to making different choices.

The Bible talks a lot about choices. God created Adam and Eve and also made a beautiful place for them to live called the Garden of Eden.

They chose to disobey God, and they were thrown out of that beautiful place.

Genesis 3:17-19, 24 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Some bad choices may be when we choose to start drinking alcohol, using tobacco products, experimenting with drugs, premarital or extramarital sex and the list goes on and on.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 1 Thessalonians 5:5-11 For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

Some good choices may be choosing to read the Bible, going to Church or Sunday school, hanging out with people who love God, and this list goes on.

Psalm 119:9 How can a young man keep his way pure?

By guarding it according to your word.

1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation.

The greatest choice we can make is to accept Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior.

John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

Other choices follow after that and those should bring honor to us and God.

Ephesians 5:15-18 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, See you in Church next Sunday.
