Praise God for the rain, even if we are all digging out again. My road is washed out, but Bobby was on the spot and fixed it enough for me to get to church. Once the water stops running and things dry out a little, he will smooth and level again. Looking at the debris and damage that comes with 12 inches of rain over two weeks, I wonder how the grave sites in the cemetery are doing. If you happen to be visiting the cemetery and you see damage, would you please call Paula Sue Shannon 325-205-2328. I know Chrissy and Bobby have chased half of their onion and potato crop across the field. My tank ran over after the six inches; I can rest assured that it has filled the ditches around the tank. It is extremely dangerous to get out into the fields just now. Some areas of our pasture become quicksand and swallow all vehicles. Again, praise God for the rain.
This school year vanished while I was working, but that does not apply for these last two weeks. It’s going to be a struggle to keep everyone, including parents, in school. Mrs. Wyatt and Mr. Womack, along with the board members, are signing up new teachers, an interim administrator, and organizing next year’s classes. It feels a little lonely looking at the activity from the outside. Still, I’m excited for everyone.
The Alumni banquet is just a few years short of its 100th an-niversary. The crowd was down a little last night, but they were as enthusiastic as always. There were graduates from 1947 and 1948. How amazing is that! The food was provided by the Bailey Family and the Coyote Store. It was delicious and more than ample for even the largest appetite. The theme has been opening new chapters for our seniors this year. I hope the alumni banquet becomes one of their chapter events in the future. We had no one from 2004 or 2014, and it would have been good to have someone from their era. One of our steadfast supporters, Thurman Saxon, was unable to attend as he is recovering from knee surgery. Hopefully, he will attend next year.
Several seniors were absent from the banquet because they were attending the state UIL competition for set design. There were only two 1A schools represented at the competition. We did not bring home the gold, but it was a prestigious moment for our school and Jayden Sutherland. Thank you, Mrs. Locker, for all you do to promote our students and our school. Jayden, you get to go in the record books.
Although the awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, there will still be work and grades to be completed throughout the week. Multiple activities are planned for the final week of school, but this week is dedicated to getting all grades finalized.
The men’s prayer breakfast was well attended last Saturday. Speaker for the day was Fred Overstreet. My husband Russ attended and was served a large plate of sausage, bacon, eggs, pancakes, and biscuits. If you are a big breakfast person and want some fellowship, this is the place for you. Put the meeting on your calendar or watch for the Facebook post. Everyone is welcome.
Funeral services for Brianna Ethridge will be in Cisco this weekend. Brianna was tragically killed in a pedestrian-vehicle accident. Our prayers go out to her family. Thurman Saxon is recovering from knee surgery; Bernice Adams is recovering from a recent fall, and Kathy Brockman is doing rehab for her issues. Thurman and Kathy are in the San Saba Rehab Center.
Please pray for our country, our President, the upcoming elections, and the demonstrations of hate on our campuses.
Texas is holding the line on the border, but there are still far too many illegal entries getting through our border. We need peace and stability in our country and the world.
It has been a rough week for weather around the country. Please pray for the many displaced, the injured and the massive property damage.
Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.
