Teacher Appreciation.
As the year is winding down on the calendar, it feels like everything else is speeding up. We struggle to ensure that we have covered all the things and have prepared our students for their next steps, whether that be the next grade or their journey beyond our halls.
It is during this time that we often may question whether we were successful. It is often hard to know because May ends, our students move on to the next level, and we gear up for another group of students. Opportunities to truly know feel few and far between.
However, last week we did get to hear from our seniors as they reflected back on their 12-year path to graduation. Their recognition of a teacher who somewhere along the way made a lasting impression on their lives as they helped to prepare them for life beyond Cherokee.
Listening to the statements made from our seniors was a reminder of why we put in the long hours and take work home. Being an educator is a profession of service. It is not for the weak, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t all experience low moments. So, please remember this: what you do matters. They are paying attention. Maybe not always to all the things we really want them to pay attention to, but they always remember the support you give and the way you make them feel.
