28th Annual Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest
Commissioner Dawn Buckingham M.D. announced that the GLO is currently accepting admissions for the 28th Annual Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest. This contest is facilitated through the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Adopt-A-Beach Program.
The contest encourages all public, private, and homeschooled Texas students in kindergarten through sixth grade to send in their masterpieces. The contestants' artwork should be based on the theme "Treasures of the Texas Coast” and depict what makes the Texas coast important to each individual student.
"As Texas Land Commissioner, a Texan who grew up near the coast, and as a mother, it was truly an honor to pick last year's winner of this inspiring competition and appreciate all of the beautiful artwork created by young Texans who love the Texas coast," said Commissioner Buckingham. "I encourage all young Texans, grades K-6, to submit their work, not only for a chance to win incredible prizes but also to illustrate how much the next generation cares about the future of Texas beaches."

This year's grand prize winner will receive one 6–8-night Caribbean cruise for two from Royal Caribbean International and a copy of the book “The Big Beach Cleanup” by Charlotte Offsay.
The grand prize winner's teacher will also receive one 6–8-night Caribbean cruise for two courtesy of Royal Caribbean and a prize from Adopt-A-Beach.
All 40 winners will receive two free day passes to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels or Galveston, one free ticket to visit the USS Lexington, a coupon to visit the Texas State Aquarium, prizes from Texas Adopt-A-Beach, a certificate of recognition from the Texas General Land Office, and copies of the 2025 calendar displaying the winning artwork.
All entries must be post marked by Wednesday, March 6, 2024 and sent to:

TCEQ’s Take Care of Texas program kicks off its annual Art Contest
Celebrating 10 years of artistic excellence
Dust off those colored pencils, crayons, and markers because today is the kickoff to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Take Care of Texas 2024 Art Contest.
Now entering its 10th year, this year’s contest theme is all about recycling. Students are asked to illustrate how they, along with their friends and family, recycle and reuse items to reduce waste. The contest is open to public, private, or home-schooled students throughout Texas from kindergarten through fifth grade. Prizes for the winning entries in each category (K-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th) include laptops or iPads made possible by the contest sponsor, Texas Chemical Council.
TCEQ staff will select two finalists in each category for a total of six statewide winning entries. The grand prize winners and runners-up will be selected by TCEQ commissioners and executive staff, as well as representatives from the Texas Chemical Council. Each grand prize winner will receive a laptop, and each runner-up will receive an iPad.
Each student must submit artwork depicting positive ways to care for the environment by recycling by March 1, 2024. Each entry must contain the slogan “Take Care of Texas.”
Entries can be submitted electronically via the Take Care of Texas website. Students, parents, or teachers can scan the physical entry or take a quality photo and upload the file. Digital entries must abide by the contest rules and must be accompanied by a digital entry form. Entries will still be accepted via mail.
Artwork and entry forms can be mailed to the address below. All mailed entries must be postmarked by March 1, 2024.
