Well, it's been a busy first two weeks of the Primary Filing Season locally with County Attorney Randy Robinson and County Commissioner Precinct One James Lebow both filing for re-election. So far, neither of these two has an opponent. Additionally, Sheriff David Jenkins filed for re-election and currently has two opponents for his job. They are former deputy Dwayne Shaw and former sheriff Allen Brown. Also, all four GOP Precinct Chairs, Randal Hawkins, Cindy Sloan, Johana Huff, and Christine Bessent, have filed for re-election. All of the aforementioned candidates have been accepted to appear on the Republican ballot in the March 2024 primary.
I received a check-in phone call from our House District 68 State Representative David Spiller recently, and he updated me on his Border Security bill, HB4, which makes it a misdemeanor crime to enter Texas from a foreign nation without authorization. Our Senate District 28 State Senator Charles Perry has filed SB4 on the Senate side which mirrors Spiller's bill, virtu-ally ensuring that Texas will have border security legislation pass in this Fourth Special Session. Congratulations will be in order to both David Spiller and Charles Perry once this legislation is sent to and signed by the Governor.
Lastly, in the House District 68 race, where David Spiller is being challenged by businesswoman Kerri Kingsbery, Kingsbery recently received the full endorsement of Attorney General Ken Paxton. As in previous election cycles, the San Saba Rotary Club is sponsoring a Candidate Forum at the San Saba High School cafeteria on Tuesday, January 30th. Kingsbery has already committed to attending, and I am sure David Spiller will as well. It should be a great opportunity to hear from all your candidates why they deserve your vote.
