For many years, St. Mary’s Catholic Church has held a festival as their annual fundraiser. This year is no exception as they invite the community to join them in a Diez y Seis Celebra-tion in Risien Park on September 16th. This is a historic Tex-Mex celebration featuring both Mexican and American cultures. This year, the celebration will offer delicious Mexican food options, Loteria, the “grito” contest, some folkloric dancing but also some American meals, the traditional cake walk, musical chairs, silent action, funnel cakes, and a little country music. Along with all this there are more--games, entertainment, raffles, and various contests to include the queen contest.
This contest needs your support and that of the whole community. Each contestant will seek as many votes as possible since the greatest number of votes determines the selection of the Queen. The contestants will gladly take donations, but their goal is to pre-sell as many raffle tickets as possible to get their votes. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. On the day of the event, five lucky winners’tickets will be drawn for the following prizes: 1) a San Saba Lowe’s Market Gift Card, 2) Texas Flag Cornhole Board Set, 3) Blackstone 4-burner Griddle, 4) Bulova Ladies Watch, and 5) Stihl Weed Trimmer. This year’s contestants are Jayla Estrada, Sophia Ramirez, and Rylie Schlegel. Please support these young contenders; they will be out and about San Saba selling their tickets.
