CHEROKEE HAPPENINGS

Summer started off with a trip to Powell, Wyoming, for Dale and me. What a beautiful small town. The Lilacs were in full bloom, and the whole town smelled wonderful! While there, we attended the HS graduation of Jack Thomas Van Norman. Jack is the son of Annie McWilliams. Annie and her twin sister, Amy, are 2005 graduates of Cherokee HS.

Richard Randolph suffered second- and third-degree burns attempting to put out a fire. He will be in Austin at Dell Seaton for several months and then at rehab for several more. If you want to visit or send a card the address is: Richard Randolph 1500 Red River Room #451 Austin, TX 78742

On June 26, I lost my dear friend, Melanie Delane Reed Lehrer, aged 53 years. I babysat her when she was three years old; then for the next 50 years, we became more like sisters. She left behind two sons and their wives. Levi and Lucy Kitchens and Colton and Kassandra Kitchens. She had lived in Cherokee for 28 years.

Sue Rhoades, Mary Dell Rhoades, Betty Rhoades, and Shirley Gray went on a two-week sightseeing vacation; one of their many excursions was a train ride to the top of Pikes Peake.

A group of children from the First Baptist Church attended Church camp at Century Kid Church Camp in Sherman,Texas.

Several from here traveled to Big Timber, Mt. to attend the wedding of Colin Oestreich and Kindal Huggs.

Those from here were Jerry Randolph, uncle of the groom; Sue Rhoades, great-aunt of the groom; Mary Dell and Betty Rhoades; Shirley Gray; and Dale and DiAnne Scott. It was a beautiful wedding and was oh so cool with the temperature being in the low 70s. Colin is the grandson of Richard Randolph.

Rode Ligon, 2023 graduate of CISD, played in the CanAm football game for the USA team on Saturday. He was #1 and was the kicker. The score was USA 84; Canada 16. See pictures and story on Page 12.

There will be a City Wide Garage Sale here Saturday, July 15th, from 8 a.m. There will be a sign outside the Cafe with the addresses listed. Stop by and take a photo or write a list then shop, shop, shop!

Saturday the 15th the Cherokee Corner Cafe will be open from 11-2 serving Hunts Brothers Pizza and drinks.

So, that is all I can think of for now. So, until next time, we'll see you Around the Corner!
