The winners from the San Saba Booster Club's spring raffle were announced recently. The drawings were held at the San Saba High School All Sports Banquet. Sulema Torres is the winner of the half beef and Ken Taff's raffle ticket was drawn for a pair of Rios. Gasoline winners were Betty A. Johnson and Peggy Spinks.
Mary and Jeriann Williams from Burnet came to San Saba. Jeriann played in the Junior Tennis Tournament with Christi Allen and Mary visited with her mother, Mrs. J. M. Bearden.
Michelle Prater, daughter of Ken and Cindy Prater of Bend, and Beth Johnson, daughter of Dee and Bonnie Johnson of San Saba, have both been named contestants in the upcoming rodeo queen competition.
Ronnie Pete Smith started pushing out cedar brush on the Canyon Ranch.
Pecan spraying was in full swing with an airplane doing the job spraying for case bearer infection for O.P. Leonard orchards, Ward Ellis, Melvin Hector, Jack Sloan and others.
Steve Scoggin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Scoggin of Rochelle and grandson of Ollie Scoggin of San Saba, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Science from the University of Texas at Austin. Scoggin has been accepted at the University of Texas Medical School - San Antonio, where he will begin his studies. Scoggin graduated from Richland Springs High School in 1980.
After many years as a family business venture, Hendricks' Grocery changed hands this week after its owners, Harold and Virginia Hendricks, decided to retire. The grocery store will remain open under the new ownership of Larry and Shirley Hibler of San Saba. The Hendricks will be honored this weekend for their many years of community service when Dr. and Mrs. Glenn Terry open their home to the Hendricks and the town of Richland Springs.

A marker for the Stephen F. Austin Oak was dedicated on San Saba Elementary School grounds to honor and preserve the memory of the accomplishments of the 'Father of Texas,' Stephen Fuller Austin. Fourth grade students presented an exciting Readers' Theater presentation discussing his life and some of his deeds.
Congratulations go to the Christopher Lemons who will be graduating from Lampasas High School. He is the grandson of Malissa Lemons and the late Robert Lemons. He will be going into the Navy.
The San Saba Police Department, Deputy Sheriff Barclift, and Texas DPS Trooper Allensworth managed to put another illegal methamphetamine lab out of action this week. This is actually the 18th drug bust involving the illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine.
The City of San Saba, County of San Saba & San Saba County Chamber of Commerce held a Celebration ofArmed Forces Day at the San Saba County Courthouse. George McHorse welcomed everyone, and requested the posting of the colors. The colors were posted and retrieved by the San Saba State School's Color Guard. Next, Mr. John Shero delivered the invocation, and following was Miss Angela Addkison as she sang a patriotic medley. Angela also has the honor of singing the National Anthem as the program began. And last the message was given by Pastor George McHorse, as he told a story of his own steps in life. In the end Dora Miller offered a thanks to all who contributed to the celebration.
Alton Tinney, President of the San Saba County Young Farmers proudly presented a $500.00 check to Kara Dawson to help cover her expenses for the NASA Space Camp that she will attend this summer. Kara will present a program to the Young Farmers after she returns. The San Saba County Young Farmers are proud to help in the educational activities of the young people in San Saba County, Daniel Fowler received the Lamar Award at the Richland Springs Masonic Lodge #882 Annual Lamar Award Banquet. Gerald McKee received the Lamar Teacher Award for Richland Springs. Richland Springs Juniors and Seniors were honored with a dinner by the Masonic Lodge.
