Help wanted: Ag science teachers

The number of job postings for ag science teachers across the state is drawing some attention.

The list on the website of the Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas is long. There are nearly 70 school districts seeking applicants.

Word is that teacher attrition this year is higher than normal, and the large number of job postings seems to reflect that.

Open positions include traditional ag science courses, as well as specialties in floral design, ag mechanics, technology and welding, among others. Those positions also include FFA advisor duties.

Ag science teachers empower students to be their best in life, in leadership and in future careers.

These classrooms also teach valuable skills. Jobs and careers are available in the marketplace for these students.

There’s concern that districts may eliminate some ag science classes if the positions can’t be filled.

Let’s hope not. That would be a big loss for students and for Texas agriculture.
