Lowe’s Grocery Store was named winner of the Resiliency Award-Rebuilding a Grocery Store during a Pandemic. The Texas Downtown Association (TDA) sponsors the annual program to recognize outstanding projects, places, and people of Texas.
From the tragic fire of the Lowe’s Grocery Store, to the Community Leaders’ meeting to discuss their strategic plan, and the evolving of that plan including all the food distribution until the store was ready for business, the completion of this project required many extremely dedicated, determined individuals and the businesses to accomplish the final result.
TDA was established in 1985 to connect and serve communities that are committed to downtown vitality. The organization is an independent, statewide nonprofit that represents cities and towns of all sizes, economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, local organizations, small businesses, and individuals.
Alan Buxkemper, Lowe’s Regional Manager accepted the 2020 Texas Downtown Resiliency Award on behalf of Lowe’s Grocery Store in San Saba County.
One hundred and four entries were submitted in 10 different categories from communities across the state. Due to the number of entries, the entries were divided up into two categories – Design and Achievement – with separate expert professionals serving as judging panels for each group.

The second nomination submitted, and winner of the Susan H. Campbell Award for Professional Excellence was Stan Weik, San Saba City Manager. This award was established to honor Susan H. Campbell’s legacy, a previous TDA Board of Directors president and board member, recognizing a passionate downtown professional who has made a significant impact in their city or town. There is only one winner of this award selected by the TDA Board of Directors.
In acceptance of the Susan H. Campbell Award, City Manager Stan Weik was quoted, “If this award belongs to anyone, it belongs to the community of San Saba, and so on behalf of the City of San Saba and all our constituents, I will accept this award on their behalf.”
Winners were announced in a series of virtual live Facebook Videos released throughout the week of October 27th to kick-off the virtual 2020 Texas Downtown Conference scheduled November 9-12.
