Which Candidate Do I Vote For?

Many foreign countries do not give people a choice of who their leaders will be. Countless times the rulers gained office by killing many people and taking control of the country with great turmoil, riots and guns. They stay in control because if you voice disagreement, you are imprisoned, beaten, shot or suddenly vanish.

We live in a country where we have the freedom to choose our leaders. Over 30% of the people over eighteen are not even registered to vote, and many who are registered, do not bother to go vote.

I think it is very important for everyone legally eligible to be involved in choosing the leaders of our country. I think we need to ask ourselves what kind of elected officials do we want. It should not be a popularity or beauty contest.

For Christians, does the candidate acknowledge or deny God? Do they advocate same sex marriages? Do they advocate the taking of the lives of unborn babies (abortion)?

In general, Christians should support someone whose positions are consistent with God’s Word (Deuteronomy 1:13-15). We want someone who will protect our Christian values but do not want a Church-run government.

What if we do not like any of the candidates? Vote for the best of the lot. One other very important choice we have is whether to let God into our life and/or ignore Him (Deuteronomy 30:15-19, John 1:12).

See you in Church next Sunday.
