This picture is of the current Livestock Show Barn, and it shows why a new facility is needed. It is “old and cold” as people say, and very inadequate. The youth and citizens of our City and County deserve better.
Last year on Saturday, September 10, a fundraiser was held to initiate an effort to build a new Livestock Show Barn in San Saba. The event was a great success and was attended by approximately 150 people.
To make the new facility more valuable to the entire county, the new Livestock Show Barn is being planned as a multi-purpose building which can be used yearround for events and activities.
The Community Foundation of San Saba County and the San Saba Polo Club will conduct their 2nd Annual Polo Match Fundraiser to help make this happen. Several other organizations are also participating in efforts to help build a new Livestock Show Barn. Young Farmers held a Wild Game Dinner and raised a significant amount of money which they have designated for equipment and improvements for the new facility. Other organizations have also offered their support: FFA, San Saba Livestock and Rodeo Association, Ag Departments at the three San Saba County high schools, and many other groups and individuals.
The Community Foundation is looking at possible sites for the new Livestock Show Barn and visiting similar facilities in nearby cities for ideas and planning. The City of San Saba has assisted in offering site alternatives and has been supportive of the overall effort. San Saba County will also be considering how they might be involved as a new multi-purpose facility will benefit the entire population of the County and particularly the youth. Plus, it will bring a lot of people to the City and County as they attend events.
