Editor’s Note–Part 49(k) in a continuing series.

“Do you remember his riding with you in a spring wagon?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Didn’t he tell you he had joined the mob for the purpose of breaking them up, and he had agreed to feed and keep members overnight and go on their bonds?”

“Yes, sir; he told me that.”

“Did he tell you the names of the men?”

“Yes, sir; he said it was Meeks and Alonzo Renfro he was to keep.” Cross-examined, witness was asked if he hadn’t been indicted for perjury, and he said he had.

He then explained that on the trial of the case the district attorney, with twenty state witnesses against him, dismissed the case for want of evidence.

Witness further explained that the mob was after him in the prosecution, as he was doing the best to break them up.

County Judge Seiders was placed on the stand.
