On Monday, January 9th, four members of the San Saba County Republican Party (SSCRP) Executive Committee were officially sworn in to their respective positions by new County Judge Jody Fauley in the County Courthouse. These four members included Jeffrey Carlson, San Saba County Republican Party Chairman; Randal Hawkins, Precinct 1 Chairman; Cindy Sloan, Precinct 2 Chairwoman; and Christine Bessent, Precinct 4 Chairwoman. The remaining member of the County Executive Committee, Johana Huff, Precinct 3 Chairwoman, was unable to attend.
Recently, during the general election on November 8th, Sloan, Bessent, and Huff were assigned as Alternate Election Judges, assisting the Presiding Election Judges in Richland Springs, San Saba, and Cherokee, respectively. Carlson and Hawkins were placed on the County Early Voting Board and assisted County Clerk Kim Wells during the election day vote counting. Each member of the GOP County Executive Committee successfully completed online Poll Worker training administered by the Secretary of State prior to working the election.
In June 2022, Carlson, Bessent, Sloan, and two Alternate Delegates, Roland and Cindy Hawkins, attended the Texas GOP Convention in Houston, representing San Saba County while voting on Party office holders, the Party Platform and Legislative Priorities. This was the first time the San Saba County Republican Party had attended the state GOP convention in many years.
The County Executive Committee is involved in administering the Republican Primary, scheduled for March 2024, and assisting prospective GOP candidates in filing for local races. Additionally, the committee members promote the Republican party and its platform throughout the community and seek to register new GOP voters. The committee also maintains liaison for party business with our local and regional officeholders, the state Republican Party and the elections office of the Secretary of State.
