Right now, there are so many things that are putting people at risk of losing their lives or losing all their worldly possessions. The severe drought and fires in the northwest, the upsurge in the Covid Virus, Hurricane Ida hitting the southern states and then there is the terrible situation in Afghanistan. What are people to do?
Years ago in a town where I went to high school, a creek flooded. The police and others were driving around and telling or warning everyone to evacuate to higher ground because there was a danger of flooding. A few heeded the warning, but the majority paid no attention. They didn’t want to miss their favorite television programs or be inconvenienced or thought there was no real danger. In the middle of the night, the flood waters came and a few escaped. But many drowned. It was reported that you could hear the cries in the night grow fainter and fainter and finally, no sound.
There will always be catastrophes, and it will always be that way, (Genesis 3:19). One way to be prepared if something happens is by getting close to God, (Romans 10:13-15, 1 Timothy 4:16). A great King tried everything in life, and he gave some advice, (Ecclesiastes 1:1, 13 & 14). He said to seek God and obey His commands. John 5:24 has the answer. Do not put it off before it is too late, (Philippians 3:18&19, Proverbs 1:27-29). See you in Church next Sunday.
