John 21:12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
I suppose that you will never find a triplet of words with more significance and power and hope than these three words found here in John 21:12 “Come and Dine.” Oh, the power that this phrase demonstrates. Are you hungry for the things of God and good? Come and Dine. Are you tired of struggling and fretting and worrying over trivial needs? Come and Dine. Is your life full of mishaps and ups and downs and emptiness? Come and Dine. The Bible tells us in John 21 that the disciples had fished all night and had caught nothing. It is now morning, and they are tired and hungry, and their boat is empty. Someone from the shore calls to them, “Children, have ye any meat?” They answer him, no. He then says, “cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find.” They did, and the Word of God tells us they caught such a huge number of fish that they were not able to draw in the net for the multitude of fishes. Then John recognized the Lord and said to Peter, “it is the Lord.” Peter jumped into the water and started swimming to the shore and outran the boat to the land.
Then we see in verse 9, the tremendous love and concern that Jesus had for his men. He knew they were discouraged, he knew they were hungry, he knew they were confused, and he knew that he was the only one who could help them. When those disciples got to shore, “they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon and bread.” This tells me that the Lord was so concerned for the needs and welfare of his children that he took the time after his resurrection to stoop down, gather sticks, build a fire, clean fish and prepare and bake bread and fish for those weary men who had been fishing hard all night. The compassion and care of the Lord for his people overwhelms me. Here is the Lord of Glory providing everything that they need at that moment.
What do you need right now? Jesus said in John 6:32 and following, “Verily, Verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34. They said unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
The Bible says they that hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled. Would you like to be full of God and right? Come and Dine. Jesus is the only way you can ever be satisfied. The bread of this life will never satisfy you. Jesus said Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.
