Science Mill Mini Makers “Float the Boat” on September 25

The Science Mill is hosting Mini Makers: Float the Boat, on September 25, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. in Johnson City, Texas.

Mini Makers is the Science Mill’s newest event for young scientists. Each 45-minute Mini Makers session will begin with a themed story time followed by a related hands-on activity designed to keep minds and hands busy.

The theme for the day is “What floats and what sinks?” according to a spokesperson.

“Perfect for preschoolers and their caregivers, Mini Makers is a great way to introduce early STEM learning in a playful, interactive way–all while having priceless family fun.”

For children ages 5 and under, this hands-on STEM activity invites young explorers to test everyday objects in floating boats and observe what makes them sink. Inspired by the classic story Who Sank the Boat? by Pamela Allen, children and their grown-ups will have fun while investigating through water-based experiments that spark curiosity, build language, and encourage discovery.

All activities come with General Admission. Spots are limited. Museum opens at 9:30 a.m. for Mini Makers families so they have time to explore the museum before it opens to the general public. Onsite cafe, Lady Bird Lane Cafe, is open Wednesday Saturday, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Museum gift shop open during museum hours.
