On the afternoon of January 25, 2026, the San Saba Water Department received a call of a water leak at the intersection of West Church and West Street by the Housing Authority.
When we arrived, we saw water bubbling out of the ground and decided at that point where we needed to dig to find the leak. After digging for quite some time - because of all of the rocky ground that is common for that area - we were able to get down to the pipe where the water was coming out of the pipe.
As we cleared a space all around the pipe and decided that a clamp would fix the leak, we discovered that the pipe was sitting directly on a large rock between the pipe.
After several attempts of trying to get the repair clamp under the pipe between the rock and pipe, we were unsuccessful. We at that time had to bring out some special tools to chisel out the rock to create some clearance for the clamp to slide under the pipe.
By the time we were able to successfully get the clamp wrapped around the pipe and stop the leak, it was close to 12 midnight.
With all of the time spent attempting to get the clamp on the pipe, we had lost enough water from our storage tank to create a low pressure situation for some of the customers on that pressure plane. We then at that time had to institute a boil water notice that is required by the TCEQ when this situation happens and send notice out to people.
