San Saba High School State 2A UIL Academics

The very last UIL Academic Competition of the 2023-24 school year was held last week at the University of Texas at Austin. SSHS took nine students to the UIL 2A State Academic Meet to compete in three events: Copy Editing, Accounting, and Literary Criticism.

Gracen Shahan, coached by Misty Moellendorf, competed in Copy Editing, which is an individual event under the Journalism umbrella. She was the District and Regional Silver Medalist and is the State Champion Gold Medalist!

The Accounting team, which consisted of Jennifer Barcenas, Sheridan Haynes, Evelyn Davila, and Karol Guerrero, finished as the 4th place team in the state. They were coached by Darryl Cash. The team was the District and Regional Team Champions and was led by District & Regional individual Champion, Jennifer Barcenas.

Lastly, the Literary Criticism team, which consisted of Alejandro Parra, Caitlin Mays, Sabrina Dozier, and Leia Kilman, won the Bronze Team medal. They were coached by Elizabeth Chambers. The team was the District and Regional Champions and was led by individual District and Regional Champion, Alejandro Parra.

All of these students should be commended for their hard work and dedication this year! We couldn’t be more proud of them!
