San Saba Garden Club members took advantage of the nice spring weather and enjoyed a road trip to Fredericksburg Texas on Tuesday, April 4th, to visit the Wildseed Farms off of Hwy 290 east of town. The farm fields were abundant with Texas native red poppies and bluebonnets, and many areas were in the growing stage of other lovely wildflowers. The business boasts of their 200 acre farm including a half-mile walking trail, gardens, vineyard, and winery. At the farm you can visit the seasonal gifts and home decor shop, find a huge variety of flower and vegetable seeds, see and or purchase assorted plants in the nursery areas, and sample canned and packaged goods in their market. We found ourselves, of course, taking many photos! Luckily, we did find enough room in our vehicles to carry home our loads of plants and goodies!
Club members enjoyed German cuisine at a local restaurant and shopped a bit in the lovely city before traveling back home. The bluebonnets and other native wildflowers were still out all along the roads from San Saba to Fredericksburg so we chose a perfect day to go on a field trip!
Anyone interested in joining our San Saba Garden Club group, please contact Debbie Shahan, 325-372-7260 or Janis Murray, membership chairman, 325-650-0225.
