San Saba Garden Club receives awards for annual event — Kids Nature Kamp

Each year, San Saba Garden Club (SSGC) applies for awards given by National Garden Club, US South Central Region Garden Club, State of Texas Garden Club and District V Garden Club. Concerning our local Kids' Nature Kamp (KNK), SSGC presents kiddos with environmental, conservation, local history, and San Saba specific resources lessons in a fun learning place in our local parks, using the historic Garden Club building as the daily hub.

This past year, SSGC was given District V Garden Club 1st Place in the Youth Environmental Education Project Award for our annual KNK. We went on to win 1st Place in the Texas State competition for the same category. Then, in the U.S. South Central Region Garden Club, we were awarded with First Place and $50! In addition, SSGC received a Certificate of Commendation from the National Headquarters for KNK which has been hosted for seven years now!

Different ladies have led in steering committees through the years, and many volunteers have given of their time and talent in serving the kids of our community in a great way to start off their summer vacation. Each year, KNK gets bigger and better!

As a SSGC member, I'm enjoying the fruits of our labors! Thanks to SSGC members and community volunteers for the comradery, smiles, and joy in the journey!

It also seems to rain during this time each year! City Manager, Scott Edmonson, says SSGC should plan this event more often if it brings on the rain!

The SSGC is honored to receive these awards for a little something we do for kids in San Saba, Texas!
