On December 5th, members of San Saba Garden Club (SSGC) gathered in their clubhouse at Mill Pond Park for a Christmas potluck luncheon and warm holiday fellowship.
The talented hostesses Trudy Hughes (chair), Rebecca Britton, Marti Free, Gale Ivy, Donna McKinney, and Janis Murray - created lovely Christmas- themed centerpieces for each luncheon table, from angels and nutcrackers to snowy firlined villages, Santas, and table settings festooned in red. The buffet table took center stage, laden with both traditional and nontraditional holiday dishes— all delectable.
To add to the merriment, the hostesses organized a cookie exchange that brought an extra touch of sweetness to the festivities. The luncheon concluded with members singing a round of Christmas carols and sharing special memories of Christmases past.
As we bid farewell to a memorable 2023, SSGC eagerly anticipates the first month of 2024 when the local organization will mark its 88th birthday. The January program will be a hands-on demonstration of starting seeds in a greenhouse led by club members Jacqueline Carlson and Gale Ivy. Attendees have been encouraged to bring their green thumbs, garden aprons, and hands eager to get a head start on spring planting. With the expert assistance of Carlson and Ivy, they will plant their own six-pack of seeds ranging from tomatoes to periwinkles.
The San Saba Garden Club's commitment to horticultural education and community bonding continues to guide their goals and activities. As we look back on a year filled with shared laughter, gardening wisdom, and camaraderie, we eagerly anticipate the growth and blossoming that the coming year will bring.
In the spirit of the season, SSGC extends warm wishes to the community, inviting those interested to join in its celebration of nature, friendship, and the joy gardening brings.
