On Friday, March 10th, San Saba Elementary School put on its first annual San Saba Showdown. The event took place at the White Gym and celebrated Texas history and culture just days after Texas Independence Day. The elementary students all performed square dances, the two-step, and a school-wide line dance. Fourth grade students spoke to the audience about Texas history, laying out the key moments that led to the Republic of Texas and then later, our statehood. They also shared fun facts about our state and welcomed a guest speaker, Sandra Vaughn, who represented the Daughters of the Republic of Texas at the event. Throughout the day, students did Texas themed activities in their classrooms, tasted chili provided by the San Saba Rotary Club, and wore their best western attire with complimentary purple bandanas provided by the SSES PTO. The day was full of fun and pride in the Lone Star State and is sure to be an annual tradition. Thank you to all who came and all who helped make this event a huge success.
