The San Saba Armadillos once again put on a show for the home crowd last Friday night as they defeated the DeLeon Bearcats 47-0. An interception and a fumble stalled the offense for most of the 1st quarter, but San Saba’s “swarming” defense held DeLeon in check until the Dillo offense was able to get rolling. Once the offense found their stride, they exploded for several big plays that ultimately put the Bearcats away.

The win secured a place in the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year and keeps them on pace for a chance to play for the District title. A win next Friday at Coleman will set up a championship matchup against Cisco at Rogan Field the following week.

Offensive Recap

QB Risien Shahan completed 3 of 5 passes (60%) for 193 yards (64 yard avg) and 2 touchdown passes. Not to be outdone in the air, Shahan rushed for 185 yards on 5 carries (37 yard avg) and 2 rushing scores. RB Tegen Saiz rushed for 5 yards and 2 scores and RB Stone Sears had 104 yards rushing on 14 attempts (7.4 avg) and one rushing TD. Logan Glover’s record setting reception came on a 98-yard score and Landon Yarbrough had one receiving TD that came from 86 yards out.

Defensive Recap

For the third time this year, San Saba’s defense kept their opponent out of the end zone and are now only allowing 10.8 points per game. The only real threat came late in the 4th quarter when the Bearcats had the ball first and goal from the 2 yard line but were not able to convert due to the pressure brought on by the defense. Leading the way for the Dillos were LB Landon Yarbrough with a staggering 27 tackles, LB Justin Yarbrough 17, DE Dylan Ware 15 and LB Risien Shahan with 15 tackles.
