San Saba County Friends of Animals (SSCFOA) is a vital 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization dedicated to serving all of San Saba County. Our mission is simple: to save as many animals as possible, but we cannot do it alone. Unlike traditional animal rescues, we do not have a physical shelter. Instead, we rely entirely on the generosity of our community and the dedication of our volunteers to foster animals in their homes.
The Need for Fosters and Volunteers
Currently, we only have three active foster families. Without more fosters, we are unable to rescue the animals in need. Fostering is crucial for us; without it, animals that could be saved are left without a safe place to go. We urgently need more community members to open their homes and hearts to foster animals, even temporarily.
Our board members, who are all volunteers with full-time jobs, dedicate their free time to SSCFOA. Despite their commitment, the lack of foster homes severely limits our capacity to rescue animals. We cannot stress enough how critical volunteers are to our mission.
Funding Challenges
SSCFOA receives no city or county funding. Our operations are sustained entirely by donations and fundraising events. We are grateful for our supporters, but the truth is, our resources are stretched thin. Last year, we came close to shutting down due to a lack of funds and volunteers. This would have left San Saba County without any animal rescue services, a scenario that would be devastating for the animals and the community alike.
Our Programs and Services
Despite these challenges, SSCFOA is committed to providing essential services to the community. We offer a Spay and Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) to help low-income pet owners with the costs of spaying or neutering their pets. Additionally, our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program focuses on controlling the feral cat population in San Saba County. We also provide occasional assistance with pet food and medical needs for pet owners facing financial difficulties.
Every animal that comes into our care is fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Unfortunately, the adoption fees of $50 for a cat and $100 for a dog do not cover the costs of their medical care and other needs. This is why the support of donors is so critical.
How You Can Help
SSCFOA is the only animal rescue in San Saba County, making our organization essential. However, without increased community support, both in terms of funds and volunteers, our ability to continue our work is at risk. We need your help to keep our doors open and continue saving lives.
